West Virginia Charitable Raffles

Online Charitable Lotteries are regulated by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.  There are rules that determine whether a charitable lottery or raffle is legal and compliant.

All raffle beneficiary proceeds must remain in the state of Nevada.  Nonprofits will report and provide evidence of their extended impact.

Chapter 47, Article 21A: Online Charitable Raffles

Two Options:

Under $4000 Per Event/ Under $15,000 Per Year

Charitable or public service organization which has been in existence in WV for at least one year are authorized to conduct raffles without a license provided any prize awarded in any single raffle not exceed $4,000 in value hat the cumulative gross proceeds derived from the conduct of raffle occasions by any such  organization shall not exceed $15,000 during any calendar year.

Qualified Organizations and Qualified Sports Organizations are permitted to operate online raffles in Nevada.

There are two types of qualifying organizations which have different limitations: Qualified Organizations and Qualified Sports Organizations.

“Qualified organization” means an alumni, charitable, civic, educational, fraternal, patriotic, religious or veterans’ organization or a state or local bar association that:

1.  Has been certified by the Department of Taxation or the Internal Revenue Service as not operated for profit; or

2.  Is registered with the Secretary of State as a charitable organization that solicits contributions pursuant to NRS 82A.100.

 

A “qualified professional sports organization” that is affiliated and co-branded with a professional sports team franchise which is a member of Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League or the National Football League; and plays the majority of its home games in this State.

You may be eligible if your organization has not  already awarded the $500,000 prize limit.
